Liquid propane expands substantially as it warms, so every tank is filled to 80% of its water capacity, leaving the top 20% as vapour space. This is a safety requirement under Ontario’s propane code — 80% on the gauge is full. Order your next fill at 25 to 30%, and do not run a tank dry: an empty tank requires a licensed technician to leak-test and purge the system before service can resume.
